“Pulp molding” is gradually occupying an important position in the packaging market. Why?

Feb 10, 2025

As global environmental problems become increasingly severe and the concept of sustainable development has gained popularity, the packaging industry is undergoing profound changes. Traditional plastic packaging has been criticized for its long-term pollution to the environment due to its difficulty in degradation, and consumers are increasingly calling for environmentally friendly and sustainable packaging. In this context, pulp molding, as a green packaging solution with great potential, has ushered in a golden period of explosive growth. With its many advantages, it not only meets environmental protection requirements, but also meets consumers' urgent needs for sustainable packaging, and is gradually occupying an important position in the packaging market.

Drivers of explosive growth:

1. Environmental policy promotion

Globally, the "plastic ban/restriction" policy is like a strong east wind, creating a favorable policy environment for the rise of the pulp molding market. Since 2019, developed countries and regions such as Europe and the United States have taken the lead in introducing a series of strict policies and regulations to restrict the use of disposable plastic products and increase the promotion of environmentally friendly packaging alternatives. For example, the EU's Disposable Plastics Directive strictly controls the production and sales of many plastic products such as plastic tableware and straws, forcing many companies to seek other environmentally friendly packaging materials to replace plastic products.

2.Consumers' environmental awareness increases

As the public's attention to environmental issues such as global warming and marine plastic pollution continues to rise, consumers' environmental awareness has been awakened and strengthened. Nowadays, more and more consumers not only pay attention to the quality and price of the product itself when purchasing goods, but also take into account whether the packaging is environmentally friendly.

3.Cost Advantage

In commercial operations, cost is always one of the important factors that companies consider, and pulp molding has shown obvious advantages in this regard. On the one hand, the raw materials for pulp molding mainly come from abundant biomass resources such as wood, straw, and bagasse. Compared with some degradable plastics, its raw material cost is relatively low, and the unit price is often more than 40% lower than that of degradable plastics.
